About Abhilash

I am a trader who learned to write software, and a software builder who still trades. The overlap is the whole job.

At 18

Markets first

I started trading at eighteen — forex, commodities, futures and options, across Indian and global markets, later crypto. What the charts did not show me was how much of a result comes from execution and discipline rather than the idea itself. That lesson shaped everything after it.

Then

Learning to build

I trained in software engineering and data science: code, algorithms, and the statistical side that separates a strategy from a good-looking backtest. The point was never to become a developer for its own sake. It was to stop depending on my own attention to run a strategy.

2016

Founding X-STOX

X-STOX began in Pune in 2016 as the place where those two halves met. I took strategies I was already trading and wrote them properly — specified, tested, documented — so other people could run them. The company now builds MetaTrader 4 and 5 Expert Advisors, technical-analysis software for Indian and global markets, and custom systems for traders and businesses.

The problem

The gap between an idea and a system

Most retail strategies don't die in the market. They die in position sizing, spread and slippage, weekend gaps, broker rejections, a dropped connection. That unglamorous layer is where I spend most of my time, and where I think most of the value is.

Now

Still both — and asking a new question

I still trade, and I still write the MQL4 and MQL5 behind X-STOX products, with Python for research. The question I am working on next is narrow and practical: where does machine learning actually improve a systematic strategy, and where is it just a label? I would rather publish a careful 'not here' than sell a confident 'AI-powered'.

How I build

The same 7 steps, whoever the system is for

  1. Written spec

The rules go on paper in plain language before any code exists.

  2. Build

Native MQL4 or MQL5, with Python where the research needs it.

  3. Backtest

Across market regimes, not one good year.

  4. Forward test

On a live account at small size, long enough to see a bad week.

  5. Document

A manual that states the mechanism, including the parts that carry risk.

  6. Ship

With installation support, presets and a person to ask.

  7. Maintain

Brokers change, platforms update, markets change character.
